A dangerous battle is underway in the name of public health. The central government have now confirmed that NHS workers have until April 2022 to get vaccinated or lose their jobs.
Sajid Javid’s push for mandatory vaccines in the health sector has faced opposition mainly due to lack of rational reasoning.
Those opposed to the the Covid vaccine say it does not hugely reduce transmission but it does effectively reduce severity of the disease, therefore as long as patients are vaccinated, it has already done its job.
However, the main problem with the debate is how the government is attempting to ‘convince’ the minority who have not taken the vaccine. Clearly the tactic of threats and ultimatums have not worked. Perhaps the state should have used a different way to sell their jabs.
It is also important to point out that like most vaccines, the state said that as long as the majority voluntarily accept it, then even if a minority refuse, society is protected. At this point, the vast majority of the country have already been jabbed. So the debate remains whether healthcare workers should be threatened or convinced differently.
