Following the murder of Sarah Everard by a police officer, the Met have been under pressure to reform the system of policing.
However, the solution coming from Cressida Dick’s team does not address the real problem.
The general public, especially women, have been advised to check the identity of police officers if stopped on the street – one idea is to make a video call so the officer is verified by a colleague.
The country’s reaction to this idea has exposed the biggest flaw of the Met leadership.
Considering Sarah Everard’s murderer was an official police officer, any verification of his identity would not have helped in that situation.
