Professor Kathleen Stock who has pushed for open debates and understanding different views on campus has received calls to resign by left wing student activists.
The row escalated over her recent book which discussed the idea that gender identity is more “socially significant” than biological sex – something which she argues is not transphobic.
Following the attack campaign by the woke brigade, the vice chancellor of the University of Sussex decided to defend Stock by saying that everybody has “an untrammelled right to say and believe what they think”.
This is a rare victory for free speech against the regressive illiberals in British academia.
In response to the vice chancellor’s decision, Professor Stock tweeted: “Couldn’t begin to adequately thank the hundreds of people who have helped or encouraged me in the last few days so I won’t try here, except to say you have my undying gratitude, and I certainly now know who my friends are. I’d also like to thank outgoing Sussex VC Adam Tickell.”
