The British and EU officials have confirmed that the UK is close to joining the EU Digital Covid Certificate scheme.
The EUDCC is now used by more than 40 countries, many from outside of the European Union.
According to the Department of Health and Social Care, this system exists not only to make international travellers easily recognisable by governments, but also to enable countries to use people’s personal data for domestic vaccine passport purposes.
This move has been criticised by pro-liberty campaigners as well as scientists who believe that health passports are simply counter-productive.
