We are hours away from Kabul officially falling and Taliban completing their takeover of Afghanistan. Every day, the government loses more territories, which has raised many questions.
One main concern is regarding the performance of the 300,000 security forces – combination of Army, Airforce, Police etc.
Reports from the region confirm that while some do fight hard against the Taliban terrorists, many others have simply decided to instantly surrender. This partly explains the pace of expansion in smaller villages.
However, there is a dark truth about why Afghanistan is falling. Every single Defence Minster since 2001, from Mohammed Fahim to Bismillah Khan Mohammadi failed to meet the recruitment targets. They also failed to tackle internal corruption at the top of the system.
No matter how much longer American forces train or fund the Afghans, if they don’t address their toxic culture of theft and corruption, Afghanistan would always lose to organised enemy attacks.
We will analyse the situation further on Monday’s show at 6pm.
